Where is Okuizumo?
It takes a little extra effort to get here, but the rewards are worth it. The beautiful countryside and traditional way of life offer a unique experience of the good old japan.
By car
When using a navigation device you can use the address and / or the phone number 0854-54-2260 of the Okuizumo tourist information center (or the address of your accommodation).
The tourist association is located centrally in the Okuizumo town, and is a convenient place to arrive with a public toilet, shop and tourist information all in one location.

Okuizumo is located about 40 kilometres from Matue train station.
By car, the journey from Matue takes about 1 hour. Okuizmo area is around 360 square kilometers so it may take a bit longer depending on your exact destination. It takes less than an hour from Izumo air port too. Rent a car facility is also available in both Matsue city and Izumo airport.
By train
If you are using public transport, there are no buses from Matsue or Izumo. Take a local train from JR Matue station or JR Izumo station. You have to Transfer at JR Shinji station to JR kisuki line. It takes around 2 hours from both Matue and Izumo. If you are not in a hurry and if you like the local Japanese railway lines, this is one of the best.
